The first week of comics of our 33rd year in business is a nice week of comic-y goodness! The lead book is probably GEIGER from Geoff Johns & Gary Frank, but lots of folks are excited about Boom!'s MAGIC THE GATHERING comic, and who doesn't want a return to Evan Dorkin & Sarah Dyer's BEASTS OF BURDEN? Plus, finally back in print for the first time since 1986 (but without Alan Moore's name on it, for some reason?) is the amazing comics deconstruction masterpiece IN PICTOPIA. But that makes it super easy to name DELICATES by Brenna Thummler our pick of the week, her follow up to the incredible SHEETS. Or maybe you want to read Gene Luen Yang who starts his run on BATMAN SUPERMAN with a super classic take on the characters. Or you want something artsy? Due to the Winter storms impacting national shipping logistics we're genuinely not sure when this week's comics will actually arrive -- as of Monday AM at 10:30 PST, our weekly shipment hasn't even been picked up yet, which would usually signify a Thursday-at-the-earliest New Comics Day (NCD), but there's not a lot of hard evidence of what this week will bring for sure! It is possible that we might even recieve nothing this week and a double shipment next week -- your guess is as good as ours! Your local comic store (including us!) still has bills and staff to pay, so maybe figure out a way to give them your patronage even when we don't have the NCD shipment.
This week our #1 recommendation is the "Master Edition" of FROM HELL, now in full color. Absolutely anyone loving comics should have this in thier library. For new periodical comics, take a look at CHASING THE DRAGON, STRAY DOGS, and MARVEL VOICES: LEGACY. But there is SO much else hidden down behind the cut! So what looks good to YOU?
